Rizal Technological University (RTU) hosted the Philippine Schools, Universities, and Colleges Computer Education and Systems Society Incorporation’s (PSUCCESS) #TechTalks Monthly Kapihan seminar on May 24, 2024, at the Penthouse, SNAGAH Bldg., RTU Main Campus.
The hybrid event, available online and in person, began with a welcome message from RTU and PSUCCESS President Dr. Ma. Eugenia Yangco, followed by an opening address from PSUCCESS Board of Director Chair Dr. Carmela Perez.
The seminar featured three sessions. Mr. Miker Rivero, Chapter Lead of the Unreal PHL Community, led the first session, offering an overview of the game development process, including game design types, tools, and engines. In the second session, Dr. Nina Ana Marie Jocelyn Alindogan Sales, co-founder, treasurer, and academic technical expert at Serious Games Association Philippines Inc. (SGA-PH), delved into the core skills and philosophies essential for game developers. She highlighted passion, empathy, and commitment as critical elements for success in the field, emphasizing their importance for innovation, player understanding, and overcoming development challenges. The final session was conducted by Mr. Chriz Ruiz, founder and Technical Creative Director at RagnaXross Studios. He discussed career opportunities, the state of game development in the Philippines, and future trends in the industry.
Faculty from the Institute of Human Kinetics (IHK), and the Bachelor of Technical Vocational Teacher Education (BTVTED) of College of Education (CED) actively participated in the said event. Selected students from the RTU CED – BTVTED program majoring in Animation showcased their game innovations to the seminar speakers, receiving valuable feedback and insights. The event aimed to deepen participants’ understanding of the evolving game development landscape and equip them with current trends, helping them stay informed and adapt their strategies effectively.
