Climate Action: RTU actively participates in climate action initiatives and educates students on environmental sustainability.
Environment and climate change awareness is integrated into the NSTP program where students learn the impact of human activities on the degradation of the Earth’s surface, and tree planting activities on Baras campus are also being conducted to contribute to the promotion of green spaces and reduction of deforestation which redound to protecting the environment from higher greenhouse emissions.
Faculty and personnel also participate in coastal clean-up programs initiated by various government and non-government organizations.
Furthermore, The initial test and flight of the POLLUX device at the Provincial Command and Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PCDRRMO) demonstrates RTU’s commitment to developing advanced technologies for effective disaster response and climate monitoring. This device is designed to gather critical data on atmospheric conditions, which is essential for understanding climate variability and informing local disaster preparedness strategies. Additionally, the installation of P-POTEKA weather stations at RTU-Boni, RTU-Pasig, and RTU-Baras further strengthens the university’s climate action efforts by providing real-time meteorological data that can be used for research, education, and community awareness. These weather stations facilitate better forecasting and climate monitoring, enabling the university and local communities to make informed decisions in the face of climate-related challenges. Collectively, these initiatives highlight RTU’s proactive approach to addressing climate change and fostering sustainable practices that contribute to environmental stewardship and community resilience.
