Sustainable Cities and Communities: RTU collaborates on projects to make cities and communities more sustainable and resilient.
The University contributes to enhancing the sustainability of the communities it serves through its urban agriculture projects. Helping households create green spaces like rooftop gardening and composting programs that help mitigate the impacts of climate change. It collaborates with organizations that advocate reaching out to the victims of natural calamities through donation drive initiatives.
Through the University’s Extension and Community Services Office, an emergency donation drive mobilizes the entire University and the neighboring communities to share and donate to the calamity-stricken areas. This is a continual initiative to serve and ensure that victims of disasters receive care and feel a sense of empathy from other members of the community where they belong.
The signing of a Memorandum of Agreement for Urban Agriculture at the Senate President Neptali A. Gonzales Integrated School represents a commitment to integrating sustainable agricultural practices into urban settings, thereby improving food security and fostering community resilience. This initiative not only encourages local food production but also educates students and the surrounding community on sustainable practices, contributing to healthier urban environments. Additionally, the renewal of the Memorandum of Agreement with Habitat for Humanity Foundation Philippines, Inc. underscores RTU’s dedication to addressing housing challenges in urban areas. This partnership aims to develop affordable and sustainable housing solutions, promoting safe and inclusive living conditions for vulnerable populations. Through these initiatives, RTU demonstrates its commitment to fostering sustainable urban development that prioritizes community well-being, environmental stewardship, and social equity, aligning with global efforts to create resilient and thriving cities.
