In its second time placing in the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings, a comprehensive global ranking system dedicated to environmental sustainability, Rizal Technological University (RTU) emerged as Rank 78 among Philippine Universities, 743rd in Asia, and 1242nd in the world, reflecting the steadfast commitment of Pandayang Rizalia in advancing and promoting sustainability through its innovations and initiatives.

The University’s ranking results from the rigorous implementation of strengthened policies and innovative initiatives that enhance RTU’s campus practices and operations, inculcating and elevating sustainability within the university premises and among its community.

The UI GreenMetric Ranking, established by Universitas Indonesia in 2010, has grown into the world’s foremost sustainability ranking system for universities. In 2026, more than 2,000 universities from over 100 countries were assessed across seven key pillars: infrastructure, energy and climate change, waste management, water management, transportation, education and research, and governance and digitalization. RTU’s placement in this highly competitive ranking underscores its dedication to embedding sustainability into campus operations, academic programs, and community engagement.

Beyond recognition, the ranking highlights universities’ transformative role as catalysts for change. By fostering sustainable practices among students, faculty, and alumni, RTU strengthens its influence in shaping the Philippines’ sustainability agenda and contributes to global efforts toward a greener future. The achievement provides RTU with a clear framework for continuous improvement, encouraging innovation in research, policy, and institutional strategies.

Spearheaded by the efforts of Assoc. Prof. Donato Z. Estocada, Chairperson of RTU’s Sustainability Committee, the University’s inclusion in this year’s UI GreenMetric ranking is another mark of RTU’s strengthened and steady efforts toward a more sustainable Philippines through the transformative influence of Rizaliano education.
