Rizal Technological University (RTU), through the Safety, Security, Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Unit (SSDRRMU), successfully conducted a three-part lecture-and-simulation series on June 13, 20, and 27, in partnership with Lifeguard Gabriel Security Agency Corp. The activity aimed to strengthen the preparedness of University personnel by providing relevant knowledge and practical skills in emergency response, gender awareness, and campus safety.
The lecture series started with First Aid and Basic Life Support (BLS) on June 13, facilitated by the Mandaluyong City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO). The session covered emergency assessment, wound care, bleeding control, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), choking management, and other basic first aid procedures. Through practical demonstrations and interactive discussions, participants gained hands-on experience responding appropriately to medical emergencies before professional responders arrived.
On June 20, the RTU Gender and Development Office (GSDO) conducted a lecture on Gender Awareness and Sensitivity. The discussion focused on gender equality, respect for diversity, professionalism, and the promotion of a gender-responsive workplace. Participants were also reminded of the importance of fostering an environment that values inclusivity, equal opportunity, and mutual respect across the University community.
The final session, held on June 27, featured a lecture on Emergency Response Tactics, covering emergency situations involving fire hazards, bomb threats, earthquakes, violence, and militant activities. Resource speakers from the Philippine National Police – Explosive Ordnance Disposal (PNP-EOD) and ELYSE Fire and Rescue Volunteer discussed emergency response protocols, evacuation procedures, threat recognition, fire safety measures, and coordinated response during critical incidents. The session highlighted the importance of preparedness, effective communication, and inter-agency coordination in ensuring the safety and security of the University community.
The lecture and simulation series provided University personnel with opportunities to strengthen their knowledge and skills in responding to various emergency situations while reinforcing the University’s efforts to promote a safe, inclusive, and resilient learning and working environment.
RTU extends its appreciation to the Mandaluyong CDRRMO, RTU-GSDO, PNP-EOD, ELYSE Fire and Rescue Volunteer, and Lifeguard Gabriel Security Agency Corp. for their valuable support and contribution to the successful conduct of the activity.
The university remains committed to strengthening its capacity to prevent crises and to prepare the Rizaliano community to respond promptly to natural disasters. To RTU, safety matters.
