RTU Psychology Team Exhibits Grief Intervention at National Population Conference

The Rizal Technological University (RTU) made a significant impact at the recently concluded 2025 Philippine Population Association (PPA) Scientific Conference, where the university’s extension group from the Psychology Department played a key role in advancing discussions on population dynamics and mental health interventions.

The  two-day conference, held on March 6-7, 2025, at Bicol University, brought together researchers, academicians, and experts across the country under the theme “Education and Population Dynamics: Shaping the Future of Societies.”

RTU’s presence was highlighted by Assistant Professor Russelle Ane A. Dela Cruz’s presentation of their extension program and research titled “DSWD INA Healing Center: Grief and Bereavement Intervention Program.” Her presentation explored the psychological dimensions of grief and loss, emphasizing the critical need for effective support systems within communities experiencing demographic shifts.

The psychological aspects of population dynamics are often overlooked in broader discussions. The RTU intervention program addresses the human element of societal change, providing crucial support mechanisms for individuals navigating emotional hardships.

The RTU delegation also included Instructor Ricardo H. Momongan, Jr., Director of the Extension and Community Services Office (ECSO), and Dr. Robelyn B. Bautista, Head of the Extension and Community Linkages Unit of ECSO, who provided additional expertise and institutional support.

Their participation exemplified RTU’s commitment to addressing real-world challenges through applied research and community engagement, positioning the university as a thought leader in integrating psychological support with population policy.

The conference, jointly organized by the Philippine Population Association, Bicol University, and the Philippine National Volunteer Service Coordinating Agency, served as a platform for knowledge-sharing through oral and poster presentations covering a diverse range of topics related to education and population dynamics.

RTU’s contribution to the discourse exemplifies how academic institutions can bridge theoretical frameworks with practical interventions. Their work on grief and bereavement support showcases the essential connection between population studies and mental health outcomes.

The 2025 PPA Scientific Conference has set the stage for future collaborations and initiatives, with RTU positioned at the forefront of research that integrates population dynamics, education, and psychological well-being to build a more sustainable and equitable future for Philippine society.
