The Rizal Technological University (RTU) and the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) – Mandaluyong City Male Dormitory have reaffirmed their commitment to transformative education and rehabilitation through the renewal of their Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) for the Kasama sa Pag-Unlad (KASA-P) program. This collaborative extension initiative is spearheaded by dedicated faculty members from RTU’s College of Education: Instr. Gerald Paul R. Jugo, Instr. Anjo M. Abaratigue, Instr. Madelaine S. Almonte, Assoc. Prof. George C. Gajero, Assoc. Prof. Christian Jorge C. Fernandez, and Instr. Maria Socorro F. Villa. The MOA signing ceremony took place last December 16, 2024 at 2:00 PM, SNAGAH Building, RTU Mandaluyong Main Campus.
In her inspirational opening remarks, Dr. Ma. Eugenia M. Yangco, University President, emphasized the university’s unwavering dedication to advancing societal progress through meaningful community engagement. Instr. Ricardo H. Momongan, Jr., Director of the Extension and Community Services Office, provided an insightful overview of the MOA, emphasizing the program’s vision of equipping Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) with practical skills and knowledge for a brighter future.
KASA-P aims to empower PDLs by offering comprehensive training in sustainable livelihood skills such as dressmaking, electrical work, business mathematics, and other practical disciplines. These programs not only enhance participants’ self-confidence but also equip them with tools for successful reintegration into society. By providing a path to economic independence and personal growth, the initiative seeks to reduce recidivism and foster meaningful transformation.
The ceremony concluded with an inspiring message from Instr. Victor Antonio M. Lim who represented Dr. Magno M. Quendangan, VP for Research, Innovation, and Extension Services and emphasized the importance of KASA-P as a symbol of hope, empowerment, and transformation for PDLs. He highlighted how partnerships like this reflect RTU’s steadfast mission to extend education and skills training to underserved sectors of society.
This renewed collaboration between RTU and BJMP reaffirms their shared dedication to creating opportunities for rehabilitation and sustainable progress. Through the KASA-P program, RTU continues to lead by example, championing education as a catalyst for personal growth and social reintegration.
