Initiated by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and represented by Mr. Oscar Sevilla, Head of DOST-NCR-PAMAMARISAN Cluster, the Rizal Technological University Agriculture Structures program took a significant step forward as the Marikina Rehabilitation Center hosted the inauguration of the RTU Agriculture Structures, January 18, 2024. This initiative marked a milestone for the RTU Urban Agriculture Research and Development Unit’s flagship extension program under the supervision of Instr. Ricardo H. Momongan and headed by Assoc. Prof. Alexander B. Quilang, the project leader and the Head of the Urban Agriculture Research and Development Unit.
The event, attended by Dr. Marion Andres, Vice Mayor of Marikina City, and his executive assistant, Mr. Raymund A. Mendoza, marked a crucial collaboration that played a pivotal role in bringing the vision of sustainable urban agriculture structures to realization. The ceremony was also graced by the presence of diverse mother leaders from various barangays in Marikina City, representing the Ilaw ng Tahanan Community Organization.
The ceremony highlighted the formal turnover of 15 units of Vertical and 6 units of Horizontal planting structures from the RTU-Urban Agriculture Research and Development Unit. These newly inaugurated structures underscore RTU’s unwavering commitment to sustainable urban agriculture practices, laying the foundation for a resilient and environmentally conscious future in Marikina City, and showcasing the program’s leadership and innovation for the benefit of the community.
