Rizal Technological University (RTU) was honored with a plaque of recognition at the National Civil Society Organizations (CSO) Conference 2024, held in Clark, Pampanga. The award, presented by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), recognizes RTU’s pioneering efforts in the establishment of the Pasig City CSO Academy. This initiative exemplifies a strong partnership between civil society, local government, and the academic community.
The recognition was received by RTU University President, Dr. Ma. Eugenia M. Yangco, alongside Instr. Ricardo H. Momongan, Jr., Director of the Extension and Community Services Office. The Pasig City CSO Academy is the product of an extension program from RTU’s Political Science Department, led by Dr. Omar Manlapas, with the support of team members Instr. John Benedict Alim, Instr. Ian Moscardo, and Asst. Prof. Michael Mesinas. The program was made possible through collaboration with the Advocacies in Praxis for Leadership and Community Development, Inc., the City Government of Pasig, and DILG NCR.
The conference was attended by key government officials, including DILG Secretary Hon. Atty. Benjamin Abalos Jr. and Assistant Secretary for Community Participation Hon. Elizabeth N. De Leon. Testimonials were shared by Elmer Sto. Domingo from the Naga City People’s Council, Mayor Jane Yap of Tagbilaran City, and Liza Hora from the Mahintana Foundation, Inc.
Inspiring messages were delivered by notable figures in community leadership, including Milwida Guevarra from Synergeia Foundation, Austere Panadero from Zuellig Family Foundation, and Mel Senen Sarmiento from Galing Pook.
This recognition highlights the success of RTU’s commitment to community engagement and empowerment, showcasing the power of collaboration between civil society, local governance, and education in driving meaningful development.
