July 15, 2024, Rizal Technological University (RTU) held a poignant Thanksgiving program at the penthouse of SNAGAH Bldg., RTU Main Campus, to honor Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Commissioner Dr. Ronald L. Adamat. The event, themed “Fiyo Bagi: Celebrating a Legacy of Transformative and Excellent Leadership,” commemorated Dr. Adamat’s unwavering support and visionary leadership as Chairman of the RTU Board of Regents from 2019 to 2024.
The program was spearheaded by the Vice President for Finance and Administration, Dr. Rodolfo L. Ducut, and Engr. Joan E. Pagilagan, Director of Program Events and Management Office, under the guidance of the University President, Dr. Ma. Eugenia M. Yangco.
The ceremony’s highlight was the presentation and bestowal of the university’s symbolic academic costume and recognition pieces. The Sablay, also known as “Ang Sablay ng Karangalan at Kahusayan”, RTU’s official academic attire, is a distinguished emblem representing the institution’s deep-seated values of honor, knowledge, excellence, and patriotism. This symbolic gesture highlighted the university’s commitment to these principles, which Dr. Adamat epitomized during his tenure. Following the sablay presentation was the awarding of a university medallion to Dr. Adamat. This medallion is a testament to RTU’s high standards and relentless pursuit of quality and excellence in education. Recipients of this medallion are recognized for their exceptional contributions and embodiment of the university’s values.
Additionally, Dr. Adamat received the Tropeo Rizalia, also known as “Tropeo ng Tapat at Makabagong Lingkod Bayan.” This prestigious award, named in honor of the national hero Dr. Jose Rizal, celebrates outstanding achievements and the institution’s dedication to innovation, excellence, leadership, and patriotism. The Tropeo Rizalia is awarded to individuals who have made significant contributions in various fields, symbolizing RTU’s commitment to these ideals. A plaque of appreciation was also presented to Dr. Adamat, further acknowledging his exceptional contributions and leadership.
The program was imbued with a heartwarming audio-visual presentation that showcased Dr. Adamat’s legacy and achievements during his tenure. This celebratory atmosphere was sustained by heartfelt messages of gratitude and reflection from key university figures, including RTU Deputy Director for Office of the Legal Affairs (OLA), Mr. Al C. Abainza, and RTU Board of Regents Finance Committee Chair, Dir. Florante G. Igtiben.
In his message, Dr. Adamat shared his insights on the characteristics of a true leader. He emphasized that true leadership must be consultative, inspirational, and grounded in integrity. He also highlighted the importance of understanding and practicing servant leadership, which he believes is fundamental to transformative and effective leadership.
