March 20, 2025 – The Counseling and Assessment Services Unit (CASU), in collaboration with 3rd Year BS Psychology Students (Block 603A), has conducted a seminar titled “Trans-Psy-Tion: Understanding Gender Transitions and Overcoming Mental Health Stigma,” held at the RTU Plenary Hall, Estolas Building. This year’s CASU Week celebration was themed “Solidifying Awareness and Celebrating Strengths: Enhancing Mental Health, Career Empowerment, Inclusion, and Diversity.”
The seminar featured Ms. Reanne Mariz Castillo, a Registered Psychometrician and a Rizalian alumna from the Psychology program, as the seminar’s guest speaker who inspired the attendees to become advocates for gender inclusivity and mental health awareness in their respective communities, promoting empathy and understanding. The said seminar also intended to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of gender identity, the gender transition process, and the psychological impact it has on individuals. Seeking to bridge the gap between knowledge and empathy, the talk highlights the understanding of the psychological processes and challenges faced by individuals undergoing gender transitions.
Filled with fun and engaging activities, Trans-Psy-Tion reiterated the role of mental health in ensuring well-being and the importance of creating a safe and inclusive space for everyone. Challenging existing stereotypes, breaking down discriminative barriers, and mental health promotion in diverse gender communities, the event also addressed the prevalent mental health stigma experienced by individuals undergoing gender transitions and explored ways to foster a more inclusive and supportive environment.
