BS-Ed Filipino Students Showcase Final Performance in FIL02: Panitikan ng Rehiyon Through Vibrant Festival Dances

The RTU Quad transformed into a lively celebration of Filipino culture on December 12, 2024, as first-year FIL102: Panitikan ng Rehiyon students concluded their semester with a vibrant showcase of Philippine festivals. Their subject teacher. Assoc. Prof. Imelda Sioson, brought together students, faculty, and judges to honor the rich cultural heritage of the Philippines.

The activity featured iconic festivals from various regions, including the Sinulog, Masskara, Kadayawan, and Pahiyas, with each student block representing one festival. Through colorful costumes, energetic dances, and creative presentations, the students captured the unique spirit of these traditions.

The event also welcomed a distinguished panel of judges—Dr. Melvin O. Mortera, Dr. Wendelyn A. Samarita (Dean of the College), Ma’am Carina Nocilado, Instr. Aira Mitra, and Ma’am Cleofe Montoya—lent their expertise to evaluate the performances. Dr. Samarita, the Dean, delivered an inspiring message, emphasizing that Filipino culture should not be confined within classroom walls but celebrated and shared with the community.

This culminating activity underscores RTU’s unwavering commitment to promoting Filipino culture and heritage. By providing students with opportunities to immerse themselves in and showcase the country’s rich traditions, the university fosters a deeper understanding and appreciation of cultural identity. The success of the FIL102 event is a testament to RTU’s dedication to nurturing pride in Filipino culture among its students and the broader community.
