Rizal Technological University (RTU) ushered in the Advent season with a solemn and spiritually enriching celebration on December 16, 2024, at the University Quadrangle. Advent, a period of reflection and preparation for the birth of Jesus Christ, was commemorated with a special mass and activities that resonated with the true essence of the season.
The celebration began with a moving Panunuluyan skit performed by Dulaang Rizalia. This heartfelt re-enactment depicted the journey of Mary and Joseph as they sought shelter before the birth of Jesus, setting a reflective tone for the evening. The Panunuluyan was immediately followed by the Eucharistic celebration, officiated by Father Arnel Calata Jr., Chaplain of the National Center for Mental Health. In his homily, Father Calata reminded the congregation that Christmas is not about material gifts but about the ultimate gift of Jesus Christ. Drawing from John the Baptist’s profound message, he urged everyone to embrace their true selves and allow their faith to manifest through their actions, emphasizing, “Embrace your being, and whatever you do, let it flow to your being.”
Following the mass, a recollection was held at the university chapel, fostering a deeper spiritual connection among attendees. The session commenced with welcoming remarks from Ms. Lory Ello of the Human Resource Management Office (HRMO). Instructor Jean T. Francisco introduced the Recollection Master, Brother Jose Ibarra “Jo-I” F. Villas, who delivered an insightful and inspiring talk.
Brother Villas captivated the audience with stories that delved into themes of love, longing, and hope. He highlighted humanity’s innate desires and how these often lead to misplaced reliance, steering individuals away from Jesus Christ—the ultimate source of healing for the heart and soul. Encouraging joyful anticipation, he emphasized waiting as an opportunity for reflection and surrender, reminding everyone of the profound message from John 3:30: “He must increase, but I must decrease.”
This Advent celebration was more than just a tradition; it was a testament to RTU’s commitment to holistic development. By integrating spiritual values into its academic and community life, the university continues to inspire and unite its community, embodying the spirit of faith and excellence during this season of hope and renewal.
