Rizal Technological University (RTU) and Cagayan State University (CSU) strengthened their institutional ties through an exploratory meeting and the formal signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), marking a significant step toward advancing academic collaboration, research development, and internationalization.
The MOU was signed by CSU Officer-in-Charge President Dr. Arthur G. Ibañez and RTU President Dr. Ma. Eugenia M. Yangco, establishing a framework for cooperation in academic instruction, research and development, extension services, and internationalization.
Following the signing ceremony, officials and representatives from both universities convened for an exploratory collaboration meeting to identify priority areas and develop concrete initiatives that would translate the institutional partnership into meaningful and sustainable outcomes.
Among the key areas identified for collaboration are joint research initiatives, student and faculty mobility programs, Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL), and the joint organization of international conferences, academic forums, seminars, and capacity-building activities. These initiatives aim to provide students and faculty members with greater opportunities for cross-cultural learning, international academic exposure, research collaboration, and knowledge exchange.
The partnership also creates opportunities for collaborative research proposals, international research networks, sharing faculty expertise, enhancing curricula, and joint extension initiatives that respond to emerging societal and global challenges.
Assoc. Prof. Donato Z. Estocada, Director of the International Affairs and Linkages Office, emphasized the importance of transforming institutional agreements into actionable programs that create tangible benefits for both universities, particularly in expanding international academic engagement and strengthening research collaboration.
The exploratory meeting underscored RTU and CSU’s shared commitment to move beyond traditional institutional partnerships by pursuing strategic, results-oriented collaborations that promote innovation, academic excellence, and global competitiveness.
Through this partnership, RTU continues to expand its network of strategic academic collaborators as it advances its aspiration of becoming a Smart and Transnational University, where partnerships transcend institutional boundaries and create opportunities for transformative education, impactful research, and global engagement.
