Rizal Technological University (RTU) and Huawei Technologies strengthened their commitment to advancing technology-driven education by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to establish the Huawei ICT Academy at RTU.
The MOU signing was held at the Huawei Office in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig City, on September 9, bringing together university leaders and Huawei representatives to formalize a partnership designed to strengthen ICT education, industry-academe collaboration, and students’ readiness for the rapidly evolving digital economy.
Representing RTU were University President Dr. Ma. Eugenia M. Yangco and Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Kristine Y. Opulencia. The Management Information Systems Office (MISO), led by IT Officer Kyle Nicole F. Alcantara, spearheaded the initiative in coordination with the International Affairs and Linkages Office (IALO), headed by Assoc. Prof. Donato Z. Estocada. Huawei was represented by Talent Ecosystem Manager Andrei A. Manuel and Vice President for Huawei Philippines Enterprise, York Zhao.
The Huawei ICT Academy is a global school-enterprise cooperation program established by Huawei Technologies in partnership with universities, colleges, and educational institutions worldwide. It aims to bridge the gap between academic preparation and industry requirements by giving students and educators access to current ICT knowledge, hands-on learning opportunities, industry-oriented training, and globally recognized certification pathways.
Through the partnership, RTU students and faculty will have opportunities to engage with Huawei’s training programs and learning resources in emerging, high-demand fields, including Artificial Intelligence, Cloud Computing, 5G Networks, Big Data, Internet of Things (IoT), Data Communication, and Cybersecurity.
The Academy will also provide access to official Huawei teaching materials and technology-enabled learning resources, including simulation platforms such as Huawei eNSP, as well as opportunities for practical and laboratory-based learning. These initiatives are expected to strengthen students’ technical competencies while giving them greater exposure to technologies shaping the global ICT industry.
A key component of the partnership is the opportunity for RTU students to participate in the Huawei ICT Competition, an international student competition that brings together teams from Huawei ICT Academy institutions worldwide. Students may compete in areas such as networking, cloud computing, and computing, providing them with a platform to demonstrate technical expertise, innovation, collaboration, and problem-solving skills on an international stage.
For RTU, establishing the Huawei ICT Academy represents more than an ICT training initiative. It forms part of the University’s broader commitment to becoming a smart and transnational university, where students are equipped not only with academic knowledge but also with globally relevant competencies, industry certifications, and opportunities for international engagement.
The collaboration also reinforces RTU’s continuing efforts to build meaningful partnerships with global technology companies and industry leaders. By connecting classroom learning with real-world technologies and professional standards, the University seeks to provide its students with stronger pathways toward employability, innovation, entrepreneurship, and lifelong learning.
The partnership between RTU and Huawei is expected to create further opportunities for faculty development, student training, industry immersion, technical workshops, certification programs, internships, research collaboration, and other initiatives that will support the University’s digital transformation and internationalization agenda.
Through the Huawei ICT Academy at RTU, the University takes another significant step toward creating an education ecosystem where technology, industry, internationalization, and student development converge—preparing RTU learners to become competitive professionals and innovators in an increasingly interconnected digital world.
