Robinsons Summit Center Makati — Representatives from the Rizal Technological University (RTU) Research Management Office (RMO) participated in the INQUIRER ESG Edge Connect Network 2026 forum entitled “The Energy Tightrope: Balancing Affordability, Security, and Sustainability in a Time of Global Disruption,” held on June 18, 2026, at the Work.Able, Robinsons Summit Center, Makati City.

Representing RTU were Assoc. Prof. John Eric Estrellado, RMO Director, Engr. Joven Baltazar, Head of the Research Unit, and Mr. Jaymar Pascua, RMO Technical Staff. Their participation forms part of the university’s continuing efforts to engage with industry leaders, policymakers, and academic experts on emerging issues that influence research, innovation, and sustainable development.

The forum brought together key stakeholders from the energy sector to discuss the opportunities and challenges associated with the Philippines’ transition toward a more sustainable energy future while maintaining affordability and energy security.

Among the featured speakers was Ms. Sharon Montaner, Director for Market Operations Service of the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC), who discussed the regulatory and operational dimensions of the country’s energy transition.

Meanwhile, Engr. Rowaldo “Prof. Wali” D. Del Mundo, Associate Dean for Public Engagement of the University of the Philippines-Diliman College of Engineering, shared insights on the major issues and concerns surrounding the Philippine energy transition. A key theme throughout the forum was the recognition that the energy transition extends beyond environmental considerations. Discussions underscored the need to ensure that renewable energy development remains economically viable, supports national competitiveness, and ultimately benefits consumers through reliable, accessible, and affordable electricity services.

The participation of RMO in the event reflects the university’s commitment to staying informed on critical national and global issues that can inform future research initiatives, policy studies, and interdisciplinary collaborations aligned with sustainable development goals and national priorities.
