RTU Strengthens Innovation Ecosystem Through Technology Transfer and IP Information Session

In line with its commitment to advancing innovation, research utilization, and global impact, Rizal Technological University (RTU), through its Technology Development Transfer and Commercialization Unit (TDTCU) and in collaboration with the Intellectual Property Management Center (IPMC), successfully conducted an information session for academic heads on April 8, 2026, at the Incubation Room of the Research and Development (RND) Building.

The initiative aimed to strengthen awareness and understanding of intellectual property (IP) protection, technology transfer processes, and commercialization pathways among RTU’s academic leaders—key drivers of innovation within the university.

During the session, Mr. John Oliver Distor, Chief of IPMC, presented the office’s background and discussed the range of services it offers, including intellectual property registration, protection mechanisms, and support for researchers in managing their innovations. His presentation highlighted the importance of safeguarding intellectual assets as a foundation for sustainable research impact and institutional growth.

Leading the session, Assoc. Prof. Donato Z. Estocada, Unit Head of the TDTCU and Director of the International Affairs and Linkages Office, emphasized the critical role of institutional support systems in transforming research outputs into impactful solutions. He further highlighted the existence of dedicated offices within RTU that provide services in intellectual property registration, technology commercialization, industry linkage, and innovation support.

Assoc. Prof. Estocada underscored that maximizing these services enables faculty and researchers to translate their research into real-world applications, contributing not only to academic excellence but also to societal and economic development.

The collaboration between the TDTCU and IPMC reflects RTU’s strategic direction to enhance its innovation ecosystem—one that aligns with global impact rankings, particularly in areas such as industry, innovation, and infrastructure, and with partnerships for sustainable development.

By equipping academic heads with the knowledge and tools to protect and commercialize intellectual outputs, RTU strengthens its capacity to generate high-impact research, foster industry collaboration, and promote entrepreneurship within the academic community.

The information session marks a proactive step in positioning RTU as a hub for innovation and technology transfer, reinforcing its role as a responsive and globally competitive institution committed to sustainable and inclusive development.
