Pandayang Rizalia’s First-Ever University-Wide Book Fair, A Vibrant Success

Pages turned and imaginations soared as Rizal Technological University (RTU), through its Library Management Services Unit (LMSU), successfully held its first-ever University-Wide Book Fair from November 12 to 14, 2025, at the RTU SNAGAH Bldg. Lobby. This three-day event aimed to foster a culture of reading and celebrate literary diversity among the Rizaliano community.

The event began with a thoughtful gesture from the LMSU, which offered coffee and pandesal to attendees, providing a welcome opportunity to gather and invigorate minds before the formal program commenced.

The opening ceremony featured a series of inspiring messages delivered by the university’s leaders. Dr. Rodrigo DP. Tomas, Director of the Office of Student Affairs and Alumni Services (OSAAS), delivered warm remarks, emphasizing the transformative power of books and reiterating the message that reading is the key to unlocking opportunities.

This sentiment was strongly echoed by the University President, Dr. Ma. Eugenia M. Yangco, who urged Rizalianos to embrace literature over the distractions of social media, encouraging them to turn a page, let their minds transform, and let their imaginations soar.

Finally, Dr. Kristine Y. Opulencia, Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs, expressed her deep support for reading, reminding students to slow down, listen, and feel. She asserted that books are keepers of memory and bridges to minds and other realms, concluding her speech with the resonant message that lessons learned by the heart will stay with us as we turn to the last pages of a book.

Adding an enriching layer to the event’s educational goals, Instr. Shereen Yanna Cadilena presented a compelling talk on the importance of using gender-fair language on campus. She reminded the community that RTU’s growing diversity necessitates the continuous practice of equality and inclusivity, specifically reiterating the use of gender-neutral pronouns to respect every individual’s identity.

Beyond the insightful talks, the Book Fair itself was a vibrant hub of activity. A wide array of publishers joined the event, offering a diverse selection of educational and recreational titles that drew consistent crowds. The excitement culminated with a Cosplay Event, where fictional worlds came to life as Rizalianos enthusiastically participated, dressing as their favorite characters from literary works, famous shows, anime, and video games, showcasing the seamless intersection of literature and creative expression.

The success of the first University-Wide Book Fair, alongside the visible enthusiasm of the Rizaliano community, clearly demonstrated RTU’s magnanimous commitment to preserving and promoting literacy. The support given to this event shows the university’s active efforts in nurturing not only academic excellence but also intellectual curiosity and creative expression among its students and faculty.
