In celebration of Nutrition Month 2025, the Business, Resource Generation, and Auxiliary Services – Food Services Office (BRGASO-FSO) of Rizal Technological University (RTU) hosted a webinar on July 17, 2025. The event supported the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN) 2023–2028, carrying the theme “Sa PPAN: Sama-sama sa Nutrisyong Sapat Para sa Lahat,” along with the sub-theme “Food at Nutrition Security, Maging Priority! Sapat na Pagkain, Karapatan Natin!”
The activity aimed to raise awareness on proper nutrition, healthy eating habits, and the importance of access to safe, nutritious, and adequate food. It also emphasized the role of PPAN in addressing food and nutrition concerns in the country.
Asst. Prof. Marie Joy C. Jorduela, Chief Administrative Officer of BRGASO, delivered the opening remarks, emphasizing her positive expectations that the initiative will not just spark conversations on the issues on nutrition, but also make way for collaborative action towards a healthier community. This was followed by a special message from Dr. Emily Conception C. Miguel, Head of the Health Services Office, who emphasized the impact of good nutrition on personal and community well-being.
The webinar featured Asst. Prof. Kathleen N. Cruzada, MPH, MEd, RND, LPT, from the University of Santo Tomas, as the resource speaker. She expertly discussed the four components of food and nutrition security: food availability, economic and physical access to food, food utilization, and stability over time. She further presented data on food insecurity and chronic energy deficiency in the Philippines. Her presentation focused on identifying common dietary challenges and providing practical strategies for maintaining proper nutrition, particularly in school and workplace settings.
The program concluded with the closing remarks of Dr. Rhodora D. Lintot, Director of FSO, where she highlighted that the active involvement and support of the participants and speakers in promoting nutrition awareness will translate into personal and professional commitment to a healthier lifestyle and diet.
More than an academic institution, Pandayang Rizalia’s mission extends beyond the education of the future generation. It includes the holistic growth of all individuals including health and nutrition. Through FSO’s initiatives, RTU cements its role as an educational institution in promoting healthier diet and nutrition.
