Urban Agriculture, Food Services Office Distribute Fresh Produce and Seedlings to Promote Sustainable Living and Community Health

Rizal Technological University (RTU), through its Urban Agriculture Research and Development Unit led by Prof. Jovita A. Anit and the Food Services Office headed by Dr. Rhodora D. Lintot, conducted a special distribution of fresh vegetables and various seedlings on July 10, 2025, at the RTU Mandaluyong Main Campus. The activity fits the university’s sustainability initiatives and as a timely contribution to the Philippine celebration of Nutrition Month this July.

Members of the RTU community received a variety of freshly harvested vegetables, including lettuce, pechay, alugbati, and dried basil, all rich in essential nutrients. In addition, eggplant, okra, and tomato seedlings were distributed to promote home gardening and empower individuals to grow their own food, fostering self-sufficiency and sustainability.

This effort is part of RTU’s flagship extension project, “Urban Agriculture in the Barangay: Vegetable Production for Livelihood to the Barangays of Mandaluyong City,” which seeks to promote food security by implementing urban agriculture practices across local communities using RTU-developed planting structures and organic fertilizers.

By strengthening its urban agriculture efforts, RTU continues to serve as a model institution for community-centered sustainability, research-based innovation, and health-oriented public service.
