The 4th Pasig City Civil Society Organization (CSO) Academy Graduation Ceremony, held on December 11, 2024, at the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Pasig (PLP), showcased the impactful collaboration between Rizal Technological University (RTU) and the Pasig City Government. The program’s success was evident in the graduation of 63 participants who completed intensive training to become agents of change in their communities.

As a key partner in this initiative, RTU played an integral role through its extension program, Project MAKE: Mentoring and Knowledge Empowerment of Pasig City Civil Society Organizations, spearheaded by the Department of Political Science under the College of Arts and Sciences.

This partnership, involving RTU, the Pasig City Government, Advocacies in Praxis for Leadership and Community Development, Inc., and the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Pasig Field Office, aims to enhance the capabilities of civil society organizations (CSOs) in addressing local challenges and fostering community development.

The ceremony featured inspiring messages from notable figures including Pasig City Mayor Victor Ma Regis N. Sotto highlighted the importance of collaboration for inclusive development, while DILG NCR Regional Director Atty. Ana Lyn R. Baltazar underscored the value of leadership and continuous education in civic empowerment. The event was also graced by Pasig City Vice Mayor Robert Vincent Jude B. Jaworski, Jr., who emphasized the essential role of CSOs in fostering social cohesion and sustainable growth.

Instr. Ricardo H. Momongan Jr., RTU’s Director of Extension and Community Services played an important role in recognizing the achievements of the graduates. Special awards were presented to outstanding participants, including the Best Group for Advancing Citizen Action for the Barangay (ACAB), awarded to a group from Barangay San Joaquin and a group from Barangay Palatiw, for their innovative initiatives. Other distinguished honors included the Pakikipagkapwa Award, given to Ms. Emily M. Catapia for her exceptional compassion and service, and the Praxis Award, recognizing Mr. Eduardo P. Francisco for his advocacy and sustainable projects.

The program culminated in the PCCA Finishers’ Oath, a testament to the graduates’ dedication to their roles as community leaders. In his congratulatory message, Dr. Magno M. Quendangan, RTU Vice President for Research, Innovation, and Extension Services, RTU reaffirmed the university’s commitment to fostering leaders who can drive meaningful change. City Director Visitacion C. Martinez also commended the graduates for their dedication to advancing Pasig City’s progress and unity.
