June 27, 2024, in an important event at Rizal Technological University (RTU), the inauguration of the new Supreme Student Council (SSC) members was held today, marking the beginning of a new chapter in student leadership. The university president, Dr. Ma Eugenia M. Yangco, presided over their formal oath taking at the Office of the President’s Conference Room, RTU Main Campus.
The event commenced with a message of support from the outgoing officers, led by Student Regent Alfonso Miguel Abangan, who delivered an inspiring message, imparting wisdom and encouragement to the incoming SSC members. He emphasized the importance of maintaining a broad perspective and prioritizing the welfare of all RTU students.
Dr. Yangco, in her message, underscored the responsibilities that come with student leadership. She highlighted the significance of being open to criticism and using it as a tool for personal and professional growth. “Criticism, when embraced constructively, can be a powerful catalyst for improvement,” Dr. Yangco said.
She reiterated that student leaders serve not for entitlement but as exemplars for their peers, bearing the weight of their influential roles with grace and integrity. She also added that leadership should inspire and elevate the governance standards within our university community.
The gathering was marked by a spirit of dedication and commitment, as the new SSC members pledged to uphold the values and responsibilities entrusted to them. The incoming officers, headed by Joshua Regndrei Joson Verzo, SSC President, together with Jirah Castro Martin, SSC Vice President, Richard Laurence Tamondong Pascual, Mandaluyong Central (MCCSC BOR), Rojana Angelynne Jimenez Estallo, College of Arts and Sciences Student Council, Board Member (CASSC BOR), and Xyra Crisa Lei Lonto Guzman, College of Engineering Student Council Board Member (CoESC BOR), expressed their gratitude and determination to serve the RTU student body with integrity and vision.
This oath-taking ceremony marks a significant milestone in RTU studentry as the new Supreme Student Council leaders will start their leadership journey with distinction and compassion. As the new set of SSC takes on its role, the RTU community stands united in support, with the collective aim of fostering an inclusive, dynamic, and progressive academic environment.
