RTU Cultural Affairs and Institute of Human Kinetics Launch Project D.A.N.C.E at Palauan Occidental Mindoro

The Rizal Technological University (RTU) Cultural Affairs Unit (CAU) and the Institute of Human Kinetics (IHK) have launched the first phase of their Collaborative Extension Services Program titled “D.A.N.C.E: Discover, Accept, Nurture, Connect, Empower – Cultivating Culture in an Inclusive Environment.” This initiative was made possible through the leadership of Hon. Michael D. Diaz, Mayor of Palauan, Occidental Mindoro, and Ms. Princess Rose T. Pedraza, the municipality’s Tourism Officer and Focal Person for Culture and the Arts.

The program, led by RTU CAU Heads Asst. Prof. Evelyn N. Dagami from RTU-Boni Campus and Asst. Prof. Julian B. Santos Jr. from RTU-Pasig Campus brought together the members of Kultura Rizalia, IHK students, and the Ganadong Himdak Cultural Group. This collaboration focused on teaching traditional Filipino dances such as Alay, Karatong, Janggay, and Jota Botolena, along with other notable pieces preserved by National Artist Francisca Reyes Aquino.

The D.A.N.C.E. Program aimed to empower individuals by harnessing the transformative power of dance to foster personal growth, creative expression, and a deeper connection to their community and environment. By creating an inclusive and nurturing space, participants felt valued, respected, and provided with equal opportunities to refine their talents through engaging workshops. This experience also encouraged participants to deepen their appreciation for cultural heritage, fostering a sense of responsibility to preserve and share it with younger generations.

This initiative highlights RTU CAU’s unwavering commitment to promoting Culture and Arts and IHK’s expertise in expressing communication through dances. Together, they celebrated the Philippines’ rich cultural heritage, showcasing how traditional dances can unify individuals and ensure that Filipino traditions remain resilient and vibrant in an ever-evolving world.
