Rizaliano Extensionists Return to Paluan to Provide Digital Competency Training for LGU Employees

Following their successful implementation of the extension service “Digital Tools for Governance: Advanced Training in Data Management, Visualization, and Media Creation for Paluan LGU Employees” last year, extensionists from Rizal Technological University (RTU) returned to the Municipality of Paluan, Occidental Mindoro, to once again provide capacity enhancement to the employees of the Paluan Local Government Unit (LGU).

Reaffirming the collaborative relationship between RTU and the Paluan LGU, the implementation of the training, held from April 6 to 10, focused on enhancing the employees’ competencies in using digital tools to assist in governance and streamline institutional processes. The simultaneously implemented activities aimed to strengthen the participants’ digital competencies essential for efficient and responsive governance.

A team of experts from the University, composed of AO Kyle Nicole Alcantara, Instr. Mylene C. Prado, Instr. Jhon Christopher S. Labao, and Instr. Jennica C. Bacungan spearheaded the program, delivering a series of hands-on training sessions focused on practical and relevant digital applications.

Throughout the five-day training, participants were guided in organizing, managing,  and analyzing data using standard computer applications, enhancing their ability to make data-driven decisions relevant to their respective offices. The training also emphasized the development of visual storytelling skills through the use of digital tools such as Canva and Adobe Photoshop, enabling participants to create engaging and informative visual materials for public communication. The sessions were designed to be interactive and output-based, ensuring that participants could directly apply the concepts and techniques learned.

The program culminated in a presentation of outputs, where participants showcased their work in data visualization and creative media production. This culminating activity highlighted not only their improved technical skills but also their creativity and understanding of effective communication strategies.

The training successfully met its objectives in equipping LGU employees with essential digital tools and competencies, contributing to more efficient data management practices and enhanced public service delivery in the Municipality of Paluan.

True to RTU’s mission to produce competent and socially responsible professionals through sustainable extension services, the “Digital Tools for Governance” program exemplifies the University’s continuing commitment to share its expertise in addressing the needs and challenges of its adopted communities and partners.
