Rizal Technological University (RTU) and the Department of Education (DepEd) explored potential areas of collaboration, particularly in DanceSport, physical education, and teacher development, during a meeting with officials of the DepEd Office of the Undersecretary for Learning Systems in Makati City.
Representing RTU were Dr. Mark Joseph Santos, Director of the Institute of Human Kinetics (IHK), and Assoc. Prof. Donato Z. Estocada, Director of the International Affairs and Linkages Office (IALO). They met with Dr. Harrold D. Espiritu, Supervising Education Program Specialist, Director Ebenezer A. Beloy, OIC Director III of the Bureau of Curriculum Development (BCD), and Ms. Marisol B. Mabazza, Supervising Education Program Specialist and focal person for Music, Arts, Physical Education, and Health (MAPEH) of the BCD.
The meeting focused on identifying opportunities where RTU can support DepEd programs through its expertise in DanceSport, physical education, sports development, and related capacity-building initiatives. Areas discussed included possible training and development programs for teachers, technical assistance, skills enhancement, and other activities that may help strengthen DanceSport and physical education programs in schools.
The proposed collaboration will form part of the extension initiatives of RTU’s Institute of Human Kinetics, bringing the University’s academic expertise and sports development capabilities closer to the basic education sector.
Through the partnership, RTU seeks to contribute to the professional development of educators and the promotion of physical activity, discipline, teamwork, wellness, and sports excellence among learners.
The initiative also supports RTU’s commitment to community engagement and extension services, particularly in creating meaningful partnerships with government agencies and educational institutions.
For RTU, the proposed collaboration with DepEd represents another opportunity to translate the University’s expertise into programs that create direct impact beyond the campus—strengthening education, developing young talents, and promoting an active and healthy school community.
