Rizalianos Facilitate Colorful Learning Experience for Highway Hills Youth through Arts

Extensionists from Rizal Technological University’s (RTU) Bachelor of Technical-Vocational Teacher Education (BTVTEd) Department conducted an activity-based outreach program, titled “Sining-Silid Kabataan”, aimed at providing 24 young beneficiaries from Highway Hills, Mandaluyong, with a meaningful and engaging art-based learning experience to support their creative and cognitive development. The program was conducted on April 23, 2026, in collaboration with Unang Hakbang Foundation, Inc., a long-time partner of the university in extension services.

Spearheaded by the project leader, Instr. Mariacil Agustin-Villanueva, and the assistance of BTVTED student-volunteers majoring in Visual Graphic Design, the program featured a structured one-day session where the participants were introduced to the fundamentals of a simple art principle. The session allowed them to explore their creativity and express themselves through various artistic outputs.

By the end of the program, the learners gained a foundational understanding of art concepts while enhancing their imagination, critical thinking, and self-expression. The activity fostered a supportive, interactive environment that encouraged artistic exploration and contributed to the holistic development of the young participants.

The activity exemplifies RTU’s mission in assisting in the development of communities through education. With the faculty’s expertise and the student-volunteers’ assistance, the youth of Highway Hills were given a meaningful experience that may shape their perspectives on creativity and the arts.
