Rizal Technological University (RTU) strengthened its capacity to manage intellectual property and patent mining through the participation of Asst. Prof. John Oliver P. Distor, Head of the Intellectual Property Management Unit (IPMU) of the Research Development and Innovation Office (RDIO), participated in the recent Patent Mining Training Workshop and Mentorship Program organized by the Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (DOST-PCAARRD).
The workshop, held on September 23-26, 2025, at the Panorama Hotel in Davao City, is part of the implementation of the Regional Agri-Aqua Innovation System Enhancement (RAISE) Program of DOST PCAARRD, and co-hosted by the University of Southern Philippines.
The training involves systematically extracting, processing, and analyzing relevant patent documents to support the RAISE network in crafting, prioritizing, and advocating changes in research and development, and technology transfer initiatives within the Agriculture, Aquatic, and Natural Resources (AANR) sector.
Through lectures, hands-on exercises, and mentoring opportunities, Pandayang Rizalia and 33 other participating agencies across the country learned to navigate patent databases, develop search strategies, produce mining reports, and present findings for institutional and national use.
RTU’s participation through Asst. Prof. Distor reflects the university’s enduring commitment to continuous improvement, especially in the area of research and development. As a leading provider of quality higher education, Pandayang Rizalia remains steadfast in finding new ways to create better opportunities through improved institutional processes.
