RTU Counselling Unit Empowers Guidance Advocates; Strengthens Campus Mental Health Campaign

In a move towards a stronger mental health program within Rizal Technological University (RTU), the Counselling and Assessment Services Unit (CASU), under the headship of Asst. Prof. Emmanuelle A. Santiago, gathered the Guidance Advocates of various RTU colleges and institutes for a training titled, “The Role of Guidance Advocates in Building an Inclusive and Mentally Healthy Campus”.

The training was held on October 7, 2025, at the R&D Bldg. Blue Room, with the aim to equip and empower the Guidance Advocates of RTU towards a stronger, more inclusive, and a mentally healthy Pandayang Rizalia.

The training featured expert knowledge from Assoc. Prof. Ruselle Anne Dela Cruz, RGC, and Dr. Rodrigo DP. Tomas, Dean of the Office of Student and Alumni Affairs Services. They served as resource speakers who led the training sessions.

Assoc. Prof. Dela Cruz led the first session with the training on Basic Psychological First Aid (PFA) Skills. In this session, the participants were equipped with essential tools for immediate psychological support. This enhances the advocates’ capabilities in responding to students who are in dire need of intervention and support.

Dr. Tomas followed her with his discussions on Mental Health Advocacy on Campus and  Inclusion and Diversity for Student Wellbeing Support. His discussions focused on the role of guidance advocates in the institutional efforts and initiatives that create a safe environment and mentally healthy university.

The training concluded with a Pledge of Commitment, led by Asst. Prof. Santiago, symbolizing the advocates’ dedication in providing immediate interventions and sustaining a mentally healthy and inclusive environment for all Rizalianos.

This seminar-training marked a significant step in empowering Guidance Advocates as active partners in promoting student wellness and building a supportive academic community. This reflects RTU’s unwavering commitment to the holistic wellness of every Rizaliano.
