Philippine Red Cross Rizal Chapter and RTU NSTPO Collaborate for Life-Saving First Aid and CPR Training

The Philippine Red Cross-Rizal Chapter and Rizal Technological University (RTU) National Service Training Program Office (NSTPO) organized a three-day training program titled “Standard First Aid & Basic Life Support-CPR with Automated External Defibrillator (AED).” Held from September 11-13, 2024, at the University Penthouse of the SNAGAH Building, the event aimed to equip students, instructors, and staff with essential life-saving skills. Dr. Elmer C. Pascual, the NSTP Director, and Associate Prof. Joven F. Andrada, the Civic Welfare Training Service (CWTS) Coordinator, spearheaded the training.

Expert trainers from the Red Cross led the sessions, including Mrs. Armila R. Ramirez, PRC Safety Instructor; Ms. Hilary Baring, Red Cross Youth Facilitator; and Mr. Louis Ramirez, SN Safety Services Instructor. These experienced professionals provided comprehensive instruction in various critical areas, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), the use of AED, wound care, managing fractures, and responding to environmental emergencies.

The interactive format of the training ensured that participants received not only theoretical knowledge but also practical, hands-on experience. Through real-life demonstrations, participants learned how to effectively perform CPR, operate an AED, and manage choking incidents and other emergencies. This approach helped solidify the participants’ confidence in their ability to respond quickly and effectively during crises.

The collaboration between the Red Cross-Rizal Chapter and RTU reflects the importance of community engagement in promoting public health and safety. By empowering NSTPO faculty with the skills needed to save lives, this initiative marks a significant step toward fostering a safer environment within the university and beyond.
