Hope and Healing: RTU Delivered Proyektong Kabalikat Donations and Psychological First Aid to Fire Victims of Brgy. Addition Hills

Rizal Technological University (RTU), through its Extension and Community Services Office (ECSO), conducted a heartwarming outreach initiative at the Addition Hills Evacuation Center, providing much-needed relief to victims of the recent fire. This effort, as part of the university’s Proyektong Kabalikat extension program, which gathered donations from the Rizaliano community from July 7-11, included the distribution of essential donations and a crucial Psychological First Aid (PFA) program on July 14, 2025.

Coordinated and facilitated by ECSO under the leadership of Instr. Ricardo Momongan, Jr., the initiative saw a collaborative effort by various volunteers from the University. The dedicated staff of ECSO, along with RTU’s Psychology Department, student volunteers from the Supreme Student Council, and individuals from the Cash for Work program, played a vital role in the successful implementation of the project.

A cornerstone of RTU’s outreach was the provision of specialized Psychological First Aid, meticulously designed to cater to the unique needs of different age groups affected by the tragedy. Student volunteers facilitated the PFA program for 69 child participants. The sessions included assessments and engaging materials aimed at supporting their emotional well-being and recovery. Asst. Prof. Amorsolo F. Espiritu and Asst. Prof. Ma. Christine Pinca-Barnedo led the PFA program for 45 adult participants, offering support and guidance during this challenging period. Assoc. Prof. Joan B. Marasigan and Dr. Robelyn B. Bautista oversaw the PFA program for 50 senior citizen participants. This critical session provided a safe space for them to share their experiences, receive encouragement, and learn valuable coping mechanisms to overcome the trauma of the fire.

Beyond the psychological support, RTU also addressed immediate needs by distributing food to 489 individuals, ensuring that basic necessities were met for those displaced by the fire. Various supplies and donations collected from the generosity of the Rizaliano community were also delivered to aid in the recovery of the fire victims.

The successful execution of Proyektong Kabalikat demonstrates RTU’s unwavering commitment to community welfare and empathy towards its neighboring community in its mother city in Mandaluyong. It highlights the university’s proactive stance in providing immediate aid to those in need through the collective generosity and heart of the Rizaliano community.
