CEng, CBEA Revamps Extension Programs through ECSO’s Huntahang Pangkomunidad

Rizal Technological University’s (RTU) Extension and Community Services Office (ECSO) separately gathered in two sessions the select faculty members from the College of Engineering (CEng) and the College of Business, Entrepreneurship, and Accountancy (CBEA) on October 17, 2025, at the R&D Building’s Blue Room, to strengthen collaboration and to recalibrate and redevelop the existing extension programs of the two colleges through its flagship in-house program, “Huntahang Pangkomunidad”.

The morning session featured participants from CEng, while the afternoon session gathered faculty extensionists from CBEA. Both sessions were facilitated by Instr. Ricardo H. Momongan, Jr., Director of ECSO, and were formally opened with welcome remarks from Dr. Magno M. Quendangan, Vice President for Research, Innovation, and Extension Services (VPRIES).

The morning Huntahang Pangkomunidad focused on revisiting and recalibrating the extension initiatives of CEng, in preparation for their upcoming community engagements in partnership with the Habitat for Humanity Philippines Foundation, Inc.

Discussions centered on refining the phases of implementation, divided into basic and advanced levels, ensuring a structured and sustainable rollout. Present during the session were Dr. Jennis N. Articona, CEng Associate Dean, who represented Dr. Wilfredo Timajo, Dean of CENG. The department heads of the various engineering programs, together with other faculty members and group participants from various CEng departments, also joined the discussions.

The discussions yielded significant results. Civil and Electrical Engineering modules were finalized into basic and advanced levels. The Chemaphy and Industrial Engineering Departments agreed to merge efforts to provide a holistic approach under the Community Livelihood and Backyard Enterprise Training. Each extension group outlined its respective topic coverage and implementation model to ensure the impact and sustainability of its extension projects.

In the afternoon, the focus shifted to the Community Business Education and Application of the College of Business, Entrepreneurship, and Accountancy (CBEA of CBEA) Extension Program. The session aimed to recalibrate CBEA’s extension service capsule, in collaboration with the Mandaluyong Manpower and Technical-Vocational Training Center, aligning it with evolving community and industry needs.

The session was attended by Dr. Rome Sherriff G. Montoya, Dean of CBEA; Assoc: Prof. Macrina Violeta V. Mutuc, Overall Project Leader of the CBEA Program, and various department heads.

Key outputs of the session included the structuring of basic and advanced modules tailored for Barangay Micro Business Enterprises (BMBEs), integration of ethics and legal compliance in all module designs, and updating of lecture series to include trends in digitalization, adaptive finance, online marketing, and sustainability.

Dr. Robelyn B. Bautista, Head of the Extension and Community Linkages Unit, facilitated a lecture-discussion on the Guidelines in Developing a Training Module. She encouraged participants to align capsule designs with new content and frameworks, and guided group discussions on module structure and alignment.

The sessions concluded with a synthesis of outcomes, setting deadlines for the submission of initial module drafts, and planning for a three-day implementation in November.

The Huntahang Pangkomunidad served as a strategic platform for both CEng and CBEA faculty members to discuss concerns, gaps, and challenges in their respective extension programs. Through open dialogue and collaborative planning, the event successfully revisited, aligned, and strengthened the colleges’ extension initiatives, further reinforcing the University’s commitment to community empowerment, industry alignment, and sustainable development.
