The College of Business Entrepreneurship and Accountancy (CBEA) of Rizal Technological University (RTU) conducted a formal benchmarking activity at the Quality Assurance Center (QAC) Conference Room of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) on April 30, 2026. The visit, organized in coordination with the PUP Quality Assurance Center, aimed to identify and adopt best practices in curriculum development, program management, and quality assurance from PUP’s College of Business Administration (CBA)—one of the country’s most recognized business schools.
The activity commenced with opening remarks delivered by Engr. Luisito L. Lacatan, PhD, Assistant Director for Institutional and International Quality Assurance of the PUP QAC, provided a comprehensive overview of the PUP system, its institutional mandates, and the central role of the Quality Assurance Center in upholding academic standards across the university.
Dr. Rome Sherriff G. Montoya, Dean of RTU-CBEA and Officer-in-Charge for BSBA Marketing Management, formally stated the purpose of the visit and introduced the RTU delegation. The eleven-member team represented the full academic breadth of the college, comprising the Associate Dean Instr. Cyril Mae De Leon, Graduate School Coordinator Instr. Michael A. Batuyong, program heads across six degree programs—BSBA Financial Management, Instr. Michael Ivan P. Mendiola, BSBA Operations Management Instr. Louie A. Dontao Jr., BS Office Administration Instr. Hanna V. Reambonanza, BSBA Marketing Management Instr. Abigail P. Mendoza, BS Accountancy Instr. Noel G. Tubice, and BS Entrepreneurship Instr. Cyrille Anne R. Del Rio—as well as a faculty member and a Dean’s Office intern.
The substantive core of the benchmarking session was a formal presentation delivered by Cindy F. Soliman, DBA, Dean of the PUP College of Business Administration. Dean Soliman presented the college’s academic program structures, curricular design frameworks, instructional approaches, and quality assurance strategies—offering RTU delegates a detailed account of the practices that have positioned PUP-CBA as a benchmark institution in Philippine business education. Representatives from PUP-CBA’s department chairs were likewise in attendance: Assoc. Prof. Michelle L. Salazar, DBA, Concurrent Chairperson of the Department of Human Resource Management and Associate Dean; Asst. Prof. Ivee C. Cobarrubias, MEM, Chairperson of the Department of Office Administration; and Assoc. Prof. Blessing G. Glova, PhD, Chairperson of the Department of Marketing Management.
An open question-and-answer forum followed, during which RTU delegates engaged in collegial discourse with their PUP counterparts on curriculum alignment, program accreditation, and the implementation of outcomes-based education. The exchange provided the visiting delegation with practical, context-specific insights that are expected to inform the ongoing review and development of RTU-CBEA’s academic programs.
The benchmarking visit reflects the growing recognition among Philippine state universities of the value of structured peer learning in advancing academic quality. For RTU-CBEA, the insights gained from this engagement are anticipated to contribute substantively to curriculum enhancement, accreditation readiness, and the overall institutional development of its business and accountancy programs.
