RTU Strengthens Faculty Competency through a Two-day Training in Educational Assessment

Rizal Technological University (RTU), through the University Curriculum and Instruction Office (UCIO) and with the support of the Office of the Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs (OVPASA), successfully conducted a two-day seminar-workshop titled “Strengthening Assessment Competence through Table of Specifications (ToS), Test Construction, and Item Analysis” on November 13–14, 2025.

The activity was designed specifically for non-teacher education faculty members who increasingly take on instructional and assessment responsibilities across various programs. As many faculty specialists come from industry and non-education fields, the workshop equipped the participants with essential tools to develop valid, reliable, and learning-aligned assessments.

The sessions were led by Dr. Rizaldy E. Garcia, Director of the University Review and Related Instructions Office (URRIO), who provided practical frameworks and hands-on guidance in preparing ToS, constructing quality test items, and conducting item analyses to improve assessment accuracy and fairness. Through guided exercises, participants applied assessment principles directly to their course contexts.

The initiative also supports Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4: Quality Education, notably Target 4.c, which emphasizes increasing the supply of qualified educators and their professional capacity. By enhancing its faculty members’ assessment literacy, RTU reaffirms its commitment to delivering high-quality, outcomes-based education to its diverse student population.
