October 2-4, 2024 – The Rizal Technological University (RTU) Research, Development, and Innovation Office (RDIO), under the Office of the Vice President for Research, Innovation, and Extension Services (VPRIES) led by Dr. Magno M. Quendangan, successfully held a three-day workshop entitled “Fostering Integrity in Academic and Research Writings” at the SNAGAH Penthouse, RTU Mandaluyong Main Campus. This event was organized by the RTU Research Publication Unit under the headship of Dr. Ruby-Ann B. Dela Cruz.
With the theme “Upholding Ethical Standards and Excellence in Scholarly Publishing,” the workshop gathered key participants from the Research Ethics Committee headed by Inst. Willie Anthony D. Sapalaran; as well as the Editorial Board of RTU, being supervised by Dr. Ryan Manuel D. Guido, RDIO Director. The training aimed to enhance ethical awareness in research processes and improve academic writing, review processes, and publication quality.
Dr. Crist John M. Pastor, Member of Philippine Normal University (PNU) Ethics Committee, led discussions on ethics in research and the ethics review process in academic and research writing. Dr. Pastor’s sessions provided attendees with insights on maintaining ethical rigor from the conceptualization to the dissemination of research.
Furthermore, Dr. Marie Paz E. Morales, Director of the PNU Publication Office, provided an in-depth look at journal publishing, the responsibilities of the editorial board, and the peer review process. There are also workshop sessions from Dr. Morales, focusing on making editorial decisions and strategies to champion journals by attracting high-quality submissions.
The three-day workshop strengthened the capacity of RTU’s Research Ethics Committee and Editorial Board members to uphold ethical standards in their roles. Participants left the event with a deeper understanding of the responsibilities they carry in fostering excellence in scholarly publishing, further solidifying RTU’s commitment to maintaining integrity in all academic and research endeavors.
