RTU, DOST Region IV-A, and Bauertek Explore Farm-to-Food Innovation Facility to Support Sustainable Agriculture and Food Systems

March 5, 2026 — Rizal Technological University (RTU) hosted a strategic meeting with representatives from the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Region IV-A and Bauertek Pharmaceutical Technologies Inc. to discuss the proposed development of a Farm-to-Food Facility at the RTU property in Baras, Rizal Province.

Held in the Research and Development (RND) Conference Room, the meeting explored collaborative opportunities to establish a facility that promotes agricultural innovation, food technology development, and sustainable food production in the region.

The meeting was led by Assoc. Prof. Donato Z. Estocada, Head of the Technology Transfer Unit and Director of the International Affairs and Linkages Office (IALO), who facilitated the discussions among the participating institutions.

Among the key attendees was Ms. Emelita P. Bagsit, Regional Director of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Region IV-A (CALABARZON), together with Ms. Una Grace M. Dollete, Officer-in-Charge of the Office of the Provincial Director. Representing Bauertek Pharmaceutical Technologies Inc. was Engr. Richard Nixon Gomez, founder and owner of the company.

The RTU delegation included Dr. Magno Quendangan, Vice President for Research, Innovation, Extension, and Sustainability (VPRIES), as well as other members of the RTU research and development team. Former DOST Secretary Engr. Fortunato T. de la Peña, who currently serves as RTU Consultant, also joined the meeting and shared valuable insights during the discussions.

During the meeting, participants discussed potential collaborations to develop the Farm-to-Food Facility, envisioned as a hub integrating agricultural production, food processing, research, and technology-driven solutions. The proposed initiative aims to maximize the use of RTU’s property in Baras, promote innovation in food systems, and strengthen partnerships among academia, government, and industry.

The discussions also emphasized the role of science, technology, and innovation in addressing challenges in food security, sustainable agriculture, and regional development.

RTU reaffirmed its commitment to fostering partnerships that advance research-driven initiatives and create meaningful impact for communities and stakeholders, as aligned with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.

The meeting concluded with a shared interest among RTU, DOST Region IV-A, and Bauertek Pharmaceutical Technologies Inc. to further explore the proposed project and identify potential pathways for collaboration and implementation.
