Philippine Librarians Converge in Davao for the PLAI 2024 National Congress

With the theme “Knowledge Integration: Connecting Minds, Empowering Communities,” the 2024 PLAI National Congress emphasized the pivotal role of libraries in fostering collaboration, empowering communities, and integrating knowledge to address modern challenges. Organized by the Philippine Librarians Association, Inc. (PLAI), the event was held from November 19 to 22, 2024, at the Grand Menseng Hotel in Davao City – gathering librarians, educators, and information professionals nationwide to exchange ideas, discuss innovations, and celebrate the library profession’s contributions to society.

Among the participants was Inst. Bobby D. Cauilan, Head of the Library Management and Services Unit (LMSU) of Rizal Technological University (RTU). His involvement in the Congress reflects the university’s dedication to contributing to the evolving role of libraries in empowering communities and fostering innovation.

The Congress featured a wide array of activities, including inspiring keynote addresses, thought-provoking plenary sessions, and engaging parallel discussions. Throughout the Congress, leading experts discussed topics such as building a green agenda for libraries, promoting sustainable development, fostering community engagement, and addressing the digital divide. Delegates also explored knowledge integration strategies and professional development opportunities during the well-attended parallel sessions, which delved into themes like digital transformation, information literacy, and interdisciplinary research.

Concluding the Congress was the general assembly, where resolutions and strategies for advancing the library profession in the Philippines were finalized, marking a fitting end to a fruitful gathering.
