On the joyous day of June 9, 2025, Pandayang Rizalia held the monthly June 2025 Flag Raising Ceremony alongside the celebration of Linggo ng Kalayaan, in relation to Philippine Independence Day, which will be on June 12, 2025. 

The ceremony, hosted by Mr. Gino Aquino and Ms. Ella Mae Sumang, began with a powerful performance from Himig Rizalia and Tunog Rondalla Rizalia. The event opened with the Vice President for Finance and Administration (VPFA) Dr. Rodolfo L. Ducut, with his speech about the true essence of freedom. He quoted Dr. Jose Rizal’s words “Ang kalayaan ay hindi nakakamit sa dulo ng espada kundi sa pagiging karapat dapat dito.”. He also added that true freedom does not only come from triumphs but rather comes from an endless pursuit that we should embody in our lives through honing oneself, through speaking one’s truth, and the deliverance of justice. The University President, Dr. Ma. Eugenia M. Yangco supported this notion and highlighted the importance of understanding the true essence of freedom in our lives and for our progressive futures.

More than a hundred years have passed since the Philippines was freed from its oppressors. Without the courage and sacrifices of the nation’s forebearers, the liberties enjoyed today would not have been possible.

As the June 2025 Flag Raising Ceremony came to a close, the message resonated clearly throughout the RTU community: freedom is not merely a historic achievement, but an ongoing responsibility. The event served as a powerful reminder that independence must be upheld through justice, truth, and the continuous shaping of a more inclusive and progressive society.

Rizal Technological University reaffirms its steadfast commitment to these ideals by fostering education that empowers, leadership that inspires, and service that uplifts. Guided by the values of patriotism and excellence, RTU remains dedicated to producing individuals who honor the past, engage with the present, and lead toward a better future.
