RTU Hosts IPOPHL’s National Training Program for Patent Drafting and Advanced Patent Information Search

Rizal Technological University (RTU), through its Intellectual Property Management Unit (IPMU), was selected by the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL) to serve as the host Innovation and Technology Support Office (ITSO) for the Training on Advanced Patent Information Search and Patent Drafting for ITSO Personnel, held from July 6 to 10, 2026, at the RTU Penthouse, SNAGAH Building.

The advanced training was attended by ITSO personnel from 13 state universities and colleges, private higher education institutions, and government agencies nationwide. Participants represented institutions from Cebu, Davao, Quezon Province, and other parts of the Philippines. Among the participating academic institutions were Cebu Normal University, Naga College Foundation, and Southern Luzon State University, while government agencies included the Department of Agriculture–Philippine Center for Postharvest Development and Mechanization, and the Department of Science and Technology–Technology Application and Promotion Institute (TAPI).

The training aimed to strengthen the technical capacity of ITSO personnel in advanced patent information search, invention spotting, use of patent databases, and patent claim drafting. Through lectures, workshops, hands-on exercises, and presentations, participants were equipped with practical knowledge and skills to better assist researchers, inventors, and innovators in protecting their intellectual property.

The activity is part of the ongoing efforts by RTU and IPOPHL to enhance the capabilities of Innovation and Technology Support Offices in higher education institutions. It also reflects RTU’s commitment to promoting intellectual property awareness, supporting technology protection, and advancing innovation-driven research within academic communities.

The successful conduct of the training underscores the strong collaboration between RTU and IPOPHL in building a more responsive and innovation-oriented intellectual property ecosystem in the country.
