RTU Strengthens Records Management Practices through the SINOP Program

The Records and Archiving Management Unit (RAMU) of Rizal Technological University, headed by AO Paolo Gaspar, conducted SINOP: Systematic Inventory and National Organizational Practices for University Records, a seminar-workshop aimed at strengthening University Record Coordinators’ knowledge of records management and archiving.

The event, held on June 16, featured the expertise of Ms. Ehxia Dondonilla, a Senior Records Management Analyst at the National Archives of the Philippines (NAP). Her long-standing expertise as an officer at NAP enabled her to impart relevant, significant knowledge in records management that aligns with national and international standards and policies.

In her discussion, Ms. Dondonilla shared foundational information, carefully defining which documents and files may be regarded as records. She also discussed the records management chain: creation, maintenance, use, and disposition.

Further, she elaborated on the national standards for records management by sharing NAP’s records disposition program, a comprehensive plan and guidelines for effectively managing public and agency-specific records. She outlined the program, focusing on each objective and activity for record management administration.

Finally, Ms. Dondonilla clarified the provisions and implementing rules of Republic Act 9470, which mandates and guides all government agencies and offices in maintaining, keeping, and managing their records.

With nationally aligned records management knowledge and practices, RTU created an opportunity to strengthen its processes and services through streamlined, more meticulous management of important records, documents, and archives. As the record coordinators’ capability to maintain, archive, and manage the university’s records improves, Pandayang Rizalia’s student and public services are poised for improvement.

RTU, through RAMU, maintains its compliance with national standards in record-keeping and archive management, continuously launching initiatives to strengthen internal processes and streamline the university’s student and public services.
