Rizal Technological University (RTU) has successfully concluded its inaugural four-day freshmen orientation program, held from September 16 to 19, 2025, marking a significant advancement in the institution’s approach to student integration and support services delivery. The comprehensive program, administered by the Office of Student and Alumni Affairs Services (OSAAS) under the leadership of Dr. Rodrigo DP. Tomas and Associate Dean Emeraldo A. Sabit employed a tri-modal delivery system incorporating face-to-face sessions through RTU SNAGAH facilities, virtual participation via Zoom teleconferencing, and hybrid configurations to accommodate diverse student accessibility needs and technological circumstances.
Under the administrative oversight of Dr. Kristine Y. Opulencia, Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs, the orientation program facilitated by Instructors John Lloyd D. Abarete and Norbee Bitara successfully integrated students from seven major academic divisions: the Institute of Human Kinetics, Institute of Architecture, Institute of Computer Studies, College of Arts and Sciences, College of Education, College of Engineering, and College of Business, Entrepreneurship, and Accountancy. The program’s distinguishing feature involved comprehensive presentations by service unit heads, including Associate Professor Emmanuelle A. Santiago of the Counseling and Assessment Services Unit, Assistant Professor Evelyn A. Dagami of Cultural Affairs, Dr. Emily Concepcion Miguel and Ms. Meriani Alejandro from Health Services, Instructor Bobby Cauilan of Library Management Services, Associate Professor Arden Mark M. Santos of Sports Development, Instructor Mariel A. Dela Trinidad of Student Affairs and Services, Instructor Rhoda M. Malabanan of Scholarship and Financial Assistance, and Ms. Ma. del Carmen G. Labong of Student Records and Admissions.
This innovative orientation model represents a paradigmatic shift from traditional single-day programs toward extended, comprehensive student integration initiatives that align with contemporary best practices in higher education administration. The program’s emphasis on direct interaction between incoming students and service unit leadership establishes early connections to institutional support systems, while demonstrating RTU’s commitment to its core values of inclusivity and integrity through transparent and accessible service delivery. By providing students with comprehensive knowledge of available resources and establishing clear pathways for support utilization, the initiative exemplifies student-centered governance.
