



June 24–27, 2025 — Rizal Technological University (RTU) proudly emerged as one of the top-performing institutions at the 2nd Southeast Asian Multidisciplinary Research Expo and Extension Conference (SEAMREEC) 2025, held at Sorsogon Convention Center, Sorsogon City. Themed “Create. Capacitate. Collaborate. Connect: Driving Global Sustainability through Multidisciplinary Research and Extension,” the conference gathered participants from across Southeast Asia, including delegates from the Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Japan, and the United States.
A highlight of RTU’s participation was the Best Conference Paper Award received by BSBA Marketing Management students; Argielene P. Enriquez (On-site Presenter), Mylene C. Amihan, Jeassie B. Amistoso, Mikka P. Limbang, and Alyssa Nicole Tablizo. Their paper, “User Generated Content Impact on Consumers’ Purchase via TikTok Platform,” bested other entries under Business and Management Track. The group was mentored by their research adviser, Asst. Prof. John Eric O. Estrellado, MBA, who also serves as the Director of the University Public Affairs Office (UPAO).
Complementing the student research presentation, RTU faculty members, Asst. Prof. Estrellado and Instr. Abigail P. Mendoza, Deputy Director of the Extension and Community Services Office (ECSO), also presented their extension initiative titled “Market-Driven and Market-Driving Strategies for Barangay Micro Business Enterprises.” The project, a core component of the CBEA of CBEA Extension Program, promotes inclusive business development for local entrepreneurs, underscoring RTU’s active role in community empowerment.
The conference was enriched by the presence of renowned scholars and global experts. Dr. Richard Marranca, an Assistant Professor of English at Passaic County Community College in the United States and a Ph.D. holder in Creative Arts and Educational Philosophy from New York University, delivered a keynote address titled “Beyond Borders: Multidisciplinary Collaboration for a Sustainable and Inclusive Future.”
From Malaysia, Dr. Jeyaletchumi A/P Muthiah, a Mathematics Education Specialist from SEAMEO RECSAM, highlighted the significance of STEAM education and sustainability, drawing from over three decades of regional teaching and leadership experience.
The plenary program also featured Dr. Tirso A. Ronquillo, President of Batangas State University and the Philippine Association of State Universities and Colleges (PASUC), who spoke on “Creating Innovative Solutions for Sustainable Development.” His talk underscored the essential role of innovation in education and research for national progress.
International perspectives were further enriched by Prof. Dr. Rosa Cordillera A. Castillo, a public anthropologist from the University of Bremen in Germany, who specializes in political emotions, decolonial knowledge, and memory studies. She advocated for inclusive and ethical research practices across disciplines.
Another powerful voice was Dr. Shazida Jan Mohd Khan, Executive Director of the Cooperative and Entrepreneurship Development Institute at Universiti Utara Malaysia, who shared insights on leveraging cooperative development and extension work to build sustainable economic communities.
SEAMREEC 2025 was organized by Sorsogon State University (SorSU) under the leadership of Dr. Geraldine F. De Jesus, SUC President III, and conference convener, with a welcome address from Sorsogon City Mayor Ma. Ester E. Hamor.
RTU’s strong presence at the conference, crowned by its Best Conference Paper win, reinforces its commitment to academic excellence, student research advancement, and meaningful community engagement. As the university continues to participate in international forums, it remains a leading advocate for knowledge-sharing, collaboration, and inclusive innovation in the Southeast Asian region.
