RTU Welcomes 2nd Sem AY 24-25 with a Flag Raising Ceremony: DOST-PTRI’s Weaving Circularity on Spotlight 

January 14, 2025- The Rizal Technological University (RTU) officially welcomed the second semester of the Academic Year 2024-2025, with a meaningful flag-raising ceremony. This year’s event was infused with the Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) theme, “Weaving Circularity”.

The ceremony brought together RTU’s academic community, creating an atmosphere of unity and purpose. The event commenced with the traditional doxology and the singing of the Philippine National Anthem, performed by Himig Rizalia, RTU’s esteemed cultural performing group. 

Dr. Kathryn D. Tria, the of Dean College of Business, Entrepreneurship, and Accountancy (CBEA)  formally opened the ceremony with her inspiring remarks, followed by an address from University President Dr. Ma. Eugenia M. Yangco. Dr. Yangco’s speech highlighted the institution’s vision for the semester ahead. 

Adding a cultural dimension to the program, Himig Rizalia delivered a captivating performance of the ethnic song “Alhibakle,”. The performance not only entertained but also emphasized the importance of cultural identity within the university’s academic environment. Concluding the event were remarks from Dr. Rodolfo L. Ducut, Vice President for Finance and Administration (VPFA). 

Integrating the “Weaving Circularity” theme highlighted the university’s alignment with the initiatives to bring together industries, academia, and private sectors to advance the use of Philippine textiles. This event marked the start of a new semester with a renewed focus on academic excellence, cultural heritage, and sustainable practices, reflecting RTU’s dedication to fostering a holistic educational environment.
