Rizal Technological University (RTU) has partnered with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to implement the Kalahi-CIDSS Cash-for-Work Program (CFWP) for college students and graduates starting in fiscal year 2025. The initiative was established during a meeting on March 11 between University President Dr. Ma. Eugenia M. Yangco, Dr. Rodrigo DP. Tomas, Dean of the Office of Student Affairs and Alumni Services (OSAAS), Ms. Rhoda M. Malabanan, Head of SFAU and DSWD representatives including Ms. Maria Jenen S. Canonigo ,Project Development Officer, Ms. Angelica B. Plaza, Mr. John Leibert A. Interino, and Ms. Richelle B. Evangelista. The program will provide short-term financial assistance to eligible participants in exchange for community work and services.
The Kalahi-CIDSS CFWP represents an expansion of DSWD’s poverty alleviation efforts to specifically support higher education students and recent graduates. Participants will engage in community development projects aligned with their academic backgrounds, including roles in public health, environmental conservation, education, infrastructure, and social services. They will receive competitive compensation with payment schedules designed to accommodate academic calendars.
Eligibility for the program includes currently enrolled RTU students in good academic standing and graduates from the past two years without permanent employment. The application process will be jointly managed by RTU’s Scholarship and Financial Assistance Unit and the DSWD, with priority potentially given to students demonstrating financial need. Ms. Canonigo emphasized that the program aims to create meaningful opportunities that benefit both students and communities. Implementation is scheduled to begin in the first quarter of FY 2025, and interested students and alumni are advised to monitor announcements from the Office of Student Affairs and Alumni Services. An information desk has been established at the Scholarship and Financial Assistance Unit office for those seeking additional details about this opportunity that aims to provide both financial support and valuable work experience.
