RTU Explores Collaboration on AI-development During San Diego State University Visit

San Diego, California, USA — As part of the Philippine delegation’s initiatives during the NAFSA 2025 Conference, Rizal Technological University (RTU) Administrators join an exploratory meeting and campus tour at San Diego State University (SDSU) on May 29, 2025. Representing RTU were University President Dr. Ma. Eugenia M. Yangco and Mr. Donato Z. Estocada, Director of the International Affairs and Linkages Office (IALO). They were also joined by CHED Commissioner Dr. Desiderio R. Apag III.

The exploratory meeting was facilitated by Dr. Aaron C. Elkins, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Management Information Systems and Director of the James Silberrad Brown Center for Artificial Intelligence at SDSU’s Fowler College of Business, the meeting provided an in-depth look at SDSU’s AI Studio and its pioneering work in artificial intelligence research.

During the visit, potential areas of collaboration were identified, including faculty development programs in AI and the implementation of Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) initiatives in cybersecurity and AI. A comprehensive campus tour offered insights into SDSU’s commitment to innovation and global academic partnerships.

The presence of CHED Commissioner Dr. Desiderio R. Apag III also stressed the Philippines’ dedication to expanding international cooperation and enhancing the country’s academic and research capabilities. RTU’s active engagement in exploring collaborations with international institutions demonstrates its commitment to fostering excellence in education and addressing emerging global challenges in AI and cybersecurity.
