RTU and Temasek Polytechnic University Unite for Cultural Exchange Workshop

The Rizal Technological University (RTU), through the initiative of the International Affairs and Linkages Office (IALO), welcomed students from Temasek Polytechnic University, Singapore, for a cultural exchange activity held on May 13, 2025, at the RTU Mandaluyong Main Campus. The program featured a series of workshops and activities designed to foster cross-cultural understanding and engagement. These included a Philippine traditional attire design workshop for Fashion and Design students, an Ideation workshop for Business students, and an art appreciation session for Humanities students.

The event commenced with warm opening remarks from RTU’s Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs, Dr. Kristine Y. Opulencia, followed by a message of support from the University President, Dr. Ma. Eugenia M. Yangco. Representing Temasek Polytechnic, Mr. Chua Dong Wei Jason from the Law and Management Department also delivered an inspiring message. In addition, student representatives from each department shared their insights and experiences, offering a glimpse into their respective academic cultures.

The program’s highlights included three simultaneous workshops, each tailored to the visiting students’ fields of study. Fashion and Design students participated in a Philippine traditional attire improvisation workshop, facilitated by Cultural Affairs Unit Directors Assoc. Prof. Evelyn Dagami and Asst. Prof. Julian Santos, Jr. Humanities students explored the intersection of contemporary art and psychology with Social Sciences faculty members, Mr. John Ramon Eisma and Mr. Nao Penales. Meanwhile, the Ideation workshop for Business students was led by Mr. Donato Z. Estocada, focusing on creative thinking and entrepreneurial strategies.

As the workshops came to a close, several students shared their talents through singing, creating a heartfelt atmosphere of camaraderie and connection. It was a truly extraordinary moment—witnessing individuals set aside cultural differences to form meaningful bonds, united by the shared purpose of the workshop: cultural exchange. RTU proudly demonstrated that creativity and connection transcend boundaries.
