RTU and BauerTek Seal Strategic Collaboration for Sustainable Medicinal Plant Production

On February 2, 2026, Rizal Technological University (RTU) and BauerTek Farmaceutical Technologies formally signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) establishing a strategic partnership in the research, cultivation, and production of high-quality medicinal plants.

Under the agreement, BauerTek will collaborate with RTU to produce medicinal plants as raw materials for its nutraceutical-grade supplements. BauerTek is recognized in the industry as a leading manufacturer of high-quality nutraceutical products, sourcing its raw materials from various state universities and colleges with in-campus processing facilities.

The respective leaders of the institution signed the partnership—RTU President Dr. Ma. Eugenia M. Yangco and BauerTek Founder and CEO Richard Nixon Gomez, as well as Dr. Magno M. Quendangan, RTU Vice President for Research, Innovation, and Extension Services; Dr. Rodolfo L. Ducut, RTU VP for Finance and Administration; and Ms. Lydia A. Agustin, BauerTek Project Administrator.

Former DOST Secretary witnessed the signing ceremony, now University Researcher, Engr. Fortunato Dela Peña, underscoring the strong scientific and government-compliant foundation of the partnership.

As a key component of the partnership, RTU will serve as one of the official moringa plantation sites, with technical and institutional support from the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and the Department of Agriculture (DA). This initiative aligns with national priorities on sustainable agriculture, green innovation, and science-based enterprise development.

The project is expected to generate significant benefits for RTU students and faculty, particularly in applied research, innovation, technology transfer, and community engagement. It will also create livelihood opportunities, strengthen local value chains, and contribute to inclusive economic growth.

This collaboration exemplifies a robust academe-industry-government partnership, advancing sustainable development, environmental stewardship, and circular bioeconomy principles. It supports RTU’s commitment to becoming “A Campus with a Purpose: A Green Future”, while contributing to global sustainability frameworks such as the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Through this partnership, RTU reinforces its role as a living laboratory for sustainability, innovation, and community-driven development, strengthening its position in national and international sustainability rankings.
