Rizal Technological University (RTU) further strengthened its international engagement and global collaboration efforts by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Gimcheon University in South Korea, held at the International Affairs and Linkages Office (IALO) on March 5, 2026.
The partnership initiative, facilitated through IALO, aims to promote academic cooperation between the two universities in areas such as faculty and student exchange, collaborative research, cultural exchange, and joint academic initiatives.
Representing RTU at the signing ceremony were University President Dr. Ma. Eugenia M. Yangco and Dr. Kristine Y. Opulencia, Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs (VPASA).
Meanwhile, Gimcheon University was represented by Dr. Yoon Ok-Hyun, the President, and Dr. Kim Yong Soo, the Dean of the Office of International Affairs.
During the ceremony, Dr. Yoon Ok-Hyun emphasized the importance of the partnership, describing the signing of the agreement as symbolic of a lasting and meaningful relationship between the two institutions.
She likened the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding to a “wedding ceremony” between RTU and Gimcheon University, expressing her hope that the partnership would endure and grow stronger through the years. Dr. Yoon also challenged RTU to remain actively connected with Gimcheon University in their shared commitment to building and nurturing future global leaders.
In response, Dr. Ma. Eugenia M. Yangco accepted the challenge, reaffirming RTU’s commitment to fostering a sustainable and dynamic partnership with Gimcheon University. She highlighted the value of international collaborations in strengthening academic programs, broadening global opportunities for students and faculty, and enhancing institutional development.
The partnership reflects RTU’s ongoing efforts to expand its international academic network. It supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 17: Partnerships for the Goals, which promotes collaboration among institutions to advance sustainable development through shared knowledge, innovation, and global cooperation.
Through this agreement, both universities look forward to implementing future programs and initiatives that will enhance global academic engagement, cross-cultural understanding, and the development of globally competitive graduates.
