The official esports team of Rizal Technological University (RTU) brought pride and honor with their 2nd Place victory at the CreamLoops Campus Esports Tournament, held last April 16-17, 2026, at Ayala Malls Manila Bay. The RTU MLBB Blue Thunders bested other universities and colleges in the esteemed Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) game, only lagging behind Dr. Filemon C. Aguilar Memorial College of Las Piñas.
The team was composed of Lloyd Derek S. Dela Cruz as the Jungler, Juwan Jonhson T. Matienzo in the Gold Lane, Prince Justine I. Arocena in the Exp Lane, Ric Cainhog in the Mid Lane, and Unald V. Angelito as the Roamer, led by their captain Jhon Yhonon D. Regaspi and guided by coach, Instr. Raymond G. Ricafort, and Asst. Coach Mike Samuel Datuin. The team is managed and institutionally supported by the RTU Sports Development Unit, headed by Assoc. Prof. Arden Mark Santos.
The RTU MLBB Blue Thunders proudly earned their spot in the grand finals after emerging victorious against other participating schools in the elimination and semifinal rounds. During the elimination round, the team defeated Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila in a single-elimination format. This win was their ticket to the competition’s semifinals, where the Blue Thunders faced and defeated the National College of Business and Arts-Taytay Branch in a clean 2-0 sweep.
In the grand finals, the team went head-to-head with Dr. Filemon C. Aguilar Memorial College of Las Piñas in a best-of-five format. Despite an intense struggle from the Blue Thunders, the match ended in a 0-3 result, placing the team’s finish at 2nd Place.
Despite losing the championship, team captain Regaspi took pride in getting the team far, saying, “Even though the finals didn’t end the way we wanted, that does not erase everything we achieved. We made it there. We earned that spot. And we represented our university with pride.”
Regaspi further expressed optimism for future opportunities and competitions for the team, “This is not the end for us. This is just another step,” he said.
The University stands proud of the teams’ final placement at the CreamLoops Campus Esports Tournament. The RTU MLBB Blue Thunders’ resilience and sportsmanship exemplify Rizaliano values, affirming RTU’s commitment to holistic development and support for its athletes.
