RTU QAC hosts a 4-day Seminar-Workshop on CASEE

Rizal Technological University (RTU) conducted a 4-day seminar-workshop on Certification and Accreditation Systems for Engineering Education (CASEE) hosted by the Quality Assurance Center (QAC) under the Office of the Vice President for Planning and Development (VPPD) in collaboration with the Philippine Technological Council (PTC). The seminar was held at RTU SNAGAH Penthouse on November 14–17, 2023.

The program began with welcome remarks from Dr. Edna P. Conwi, QAC Director, and Dr. Salvacion J. Pachejo, VPPD. Dr. Ma. Eugenia M. Yangco, the University President, also graced the event with an inspirational message. The goal of this seminar-workshop is to make sure that engineering programs follow the rules set by the Washington Accord and the Federation of Engineering Institutions of Asia and the Pacific (FEIAP) – two exemplars recognized by the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Engineer Agreement.

An introduction to Outcomes-based Engineering Education and Accreditation of Engineering Programs was delivered by Engr. Federico A. Monsada, President of PTC and the Philippine Federation of Professional Associations (PFPA). Moreover, the RTU delegates presented their department’s objectives to the honorable guest speaker, Engr. Romulo R. Agatep, APEC and ASEAN Engineer, a Vice-Chair of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology, Country Engineering Registrar, as well as the chair of the International Relations of PTC. Engr. Agatep provided feedback on each presentation.

The training also intends for delegates to volunteer and lead future program evaluation teams as PTC CASEE assessors and evaluators, as it involved talks and workshops about the specific requirements of the PTC CASEE and the different steps in the PTC accreditation process, such as the ‘Desk Top’ review, the site visit review, classifying the shortcomings, determining the findings, and creating different statement reports, among others.
