Select Rizal Technological University (RTU) faculty members from the College of Business, Entrepreneurship, and Accountancy (CBEA) and College of Education (CEd) participated in a 3-day International Academic Book Writeshop organized by Yawman Book Publishing House and held at the University of Southeastern Philippines, Davao City, on May 21-23. The writeshop was designed to train participants to transform knowledge and research outputs into publishable works that enrich the broader body of scholarly knowledge.
The RTU delegation was composed of senior and junior members of the faculty of both colleges. From CBEA, its Dean, Dr. Rome Sherriff G. Montoya, along with instructors Ellen Joy Latina and Marjane Abdurahman, actively participated in the writeshop. Assoc. Prof. Guillermo Miguel Ochoa, Dr. Susan Domínguez, Instr. Monica Elaijan Macaballug, Instr. Jodezza Montehermoso, and Instr. Armida Mamaril, who are all English teachers, stood to gain instrumental insights on academic book writing.
Divided into three days, the writeshop featured interactive, hands-on sessions with guided mentoring that enhanced participants’ understanding of the academic book development process, from concept mapping and drafting to editing and finalization. It also enhanced the teachers’ practical skills in transforming teaching materials and resources into publishable works. Beyond that, the writeshop provided professional guidance to reduce plagiarism.
The activities also included providing participants with peer and mentor feedback to ensure they would have a concrete, polished output by the end of the writeshop.
By participating in the writeshop, the faculty members gained not only professional growth but also an opportunity to enhance RTU’s institutional capacity to transform knowledge into information shareable with the broader academic community.
As an academic institution, RTU remains committed to supporting its academic personnel’s professional development and academic growth, which contribute to the advancement of knowledge and education.
